I’m glad we went on a tour. Airfare, hotel, breakfast and dinner were included as well as all our tours were pain for. Last on the list the hotels were including tax on everything. It was a dream to see the top spots as well as free time to browse. Our tour company gave us maps shopping and best bang for your buck lunches. I had the time of my life. 2 weeks in Italy was my best trip with the Portuguese Azores.

A couple (American Tourists) had their bag snatched on a train I was on from Roma Termini - Florance main. They noticed about half way through the trip when the dad went to grab something out of his bag he put in an overhead. They deduced that pickpockets were on the train acting like passengers, they took his bags basically right after they put them in overhead storage acting like they were putting their bags up there too, then they got off the train. Stay safe out there people. Italy does not care enough about tourists to actually dole out harsh penalties for pickpockets and street scammers.

Nice video! I have a question, do I have to stay in line to enter the cathedral if I have Brunelleschi ticket? I have timed entry to climb the dome, is there a passage way to get inside the cathedral without getting in the long line after I get down from the dome?

I’ve visited Italy twice. Everything you said was true. I never buy anything from a person on the street. Always buy from a shop. I told a tall black man no thank you in Italian and he persisted to make the sale. I gave him a firm NO! Then he says “You don’t like black people. You are a racist!” He’s screaming this over and over while following me. I was in shock. Thankfully a woman stepped in and told him to leave the man alone.

Only tickets with open travel date/time need to be validated (not only in Italy, in most of Europe, except in French speaking countries it’s called composter). This is to avoid you using the same ticket twice and thus committing fare fraud. Tickets for specific train usually need not be validated. The fact that a specific train is mentioned on the ticket need not imply that’s it doesn’t need to be validated. To be safe, just validate all your tickets that fit into the machine. If it doesn’t fit (such as because the railway operator that sold it is not the same as actual operator - for example French tickets do not fit into Belgian machines if printed on mainline paper (as opposed to TER paper) or if it’s an online ticket - they are exempt.)
